Richard Scott’s infamous 1991 Ferrari F40 built by Gas Monkey Garage.
In 2013, Discovery Channel’s hit show Fast & Loud filmed Richard Rawlings and the Gas Monkey Garage crew refurbish a totaled 1991 Ferrari F40 for $695,000.00. The Texas team later auctioned the rebuilt supercar in 2014 with baseball star Reggie Jackson placing the $742,500.00 winning bid. It switched hands once again in 2015 to Richard Scott for $643,500.00, who later plead guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud charges. The FBI seized this one-of-a-kind asset and in February 2019 we offered it in an online-only auction hosted by HiBid. Announcing in multiple posts to millions of followers on social media, Richard Rawlings stated that he planned to bid aggressively to buy it back. The producers of Fast & Loud reached out to us for approval to film and Richard Rawlings attended our live preview. The additional (free) exposure to millions of car enthusiast that this media personality attracted during open bidding as well as when the episode aired was priceless. Our final sale price was $760,000.00, the highest price ever paid for this build. In addition, it’s also worth noting that this auction lineup contained a Triple-Black 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88, one of only two ever produced in this color combination. With a final sale price of $405,025.00, this is one of the rarest assets that we have sold to date.
